Problem of the Day 22 Sept 2011

Susan plays a game in which she rolls two fair standard six-sided dice with sides labeled one through six. She wins if the number on one of the dice is three times the number on the other die. If Susan plays this game three times, compute the probability that she wins at least once.

  1. simple, just realise that only time this is possi if we have 1,3 or 2,6 as the two numbers

so in all i can have 4 combos, out of the possible 36 to satisfy the condition
    hence that is 4/36 = 1/9
now since its asked alteast once... in three times... simply find prob for 0 times and then sub it from 1
    thats is 1-( 8/9)^3
    so we get 217/729
