What is the largest number in the sequence \sqrt{50},2\sqrt{49},3\sqrt{48},\cdots,49\sqrt{2},50?

  3. The easier way to see that let f(n)=nroot(51-n)

    and then differentitate f(n) and eqaute is to zero

    f'(n)=0 gives n=34

    Hence the maximum value is 34root17


    Else you can use AM Gm

    (n/2 +n/2 +(51-n))/3 >= (n^2(51-n)/4)^(1/3)

    solve further

    17>=(n^2(51-n)/4)^(1/3)

    34root(17)>=nroot(51-n)
